Leather and sustainability

RECYCLING AND DISPOSAL

no animal is directly slaughtered for the tanning of its skins which, if not used in the tanning process, would create serious problems of disposal and pollution. In addition, a vegetable-tanned leather article can be disposed of easily thanks to its chemical-biological characteristics.

GREEN

The tanneries annually invest large sums for purification plants in full respect of the environment. In addition, the vegetable skin ensures the absence of toxic and harmful substances for both man and the environment. Following the principles of the circular economy of recovery-recycling-reuse, waste from the various processing phases is transformed into raw materials useful for other sectors.

CERTIFICATION

The Tuscan Tanning District is the only Italian district certified EMAS (Eco-management and Audit Scheme), an instrument promoted by the EU to encourage the implementation of responsible environmental strategies.
